The Grand Kenya Explorer
Ten days built to show you the full breadth of Kenya's wilderness: the Mara's predators, Amboseli's elephant herds beneath Kilimanjaro, and the arid drama of Samburu in the north.
Each transfer is timed to minimize travel fatigue, with private light-aircraft connections between parks and enough time in each to genuinely settle in rather than rush through a checklist.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
A flexible outline — every itinerary is tailored around your dates and interests.
Arrival in the Masai Mara & Welcome Game Drive
Touch down at a Mara airstrip and transfer to camp along tracks already thick with plains game. After settling into your tent and a light lunch, head out for an afternoon orientation drive as the light turns gold, tracking your first impala, topi, and, with luck, a resting lion pride before returning to camp for dinner under the stars.
Field Note
With ten days and three ecosystems, pack light, breathable layers — laundry service is available at every camp on this route.
Full-Day Predator Tracking in the Mara Triangle
A full day dedicated to the Mara's resident big cats, departing at first light with a packed bush breakfast. Your guide works radio networks with fellow trackers to follow fresh lion and leopard sign across the Triangle's riverine forest and open plains, returning to camp only as the heat of the day settles in.
Mara River & Migration Watch
Position along the Mara River at one of its known crossing points, where thousands of wildebeest and zebra gather before the plunge (peak season July to October; outside this window the drive focuses on resident river wildlife including hippo pods and Nile crocodile).
Elephant Herds of Amboseli
A full morning tracking Amboseli's famous large-tusker elephant herds as they move between swamp and acacia woodland, with Kilimanjaro rising behind them in one of Africa's most photographed backdrops.
Observation Hill & Swamp Circuit
Climb Observation Hill for a panoramic view over the entire ecosystem, then spend the afternoon on the swamp-edge circuit, home to hippo, waterbuck, and dense concentrations of waterbirds.
Maasai Cultural Encounter
After a morning game drive, visit a Maasai community living on the edge of the Amboseli ecosystem to learn how they coexist with the elephant herds that pass through their grazing land each season.
Arrival & Ewaso Ng'iro Sundowner
Transfer into the reserve along the Ewaso Ng'iro river, settling into camp before an evening riverside sundowner with a chance of spotting elephant coming down to drink as the light fades.
Tracking the Samburu Special Five
A full day dedicated to the reserve's northern endemics: Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, beisa oryx, and Somali ostrich, species found almost nowhere else in Kenya.
Samburu Community Visit
After a morning game drive, visit a local Samburu village to learn about the community's traditions, beadwork, and enduring relationship with the surrounding wilderness.
Departure Transfer
A final morning game drive before transferring to the airstrip for your onward flight to Nairobi.
