The Great Migration River Crossing
Each year, over a million wildebeest and zebra cross the crocodile-infested waters of the Mara River in one of the natural world's most dramatic spectacles.
This itinerary bases you close to the river's most active crossing points during peak season (July to October), with the flexibility to reposition at short notice when a crossing looks imminent.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
A flexible outline — every itinerary is tailored around your dates and interests.
Arrival in the Masai Mara & Welcome Game Drive
Touch down at a Mara airstrip and transfer to camp along tracks already thick with plains game. After settling into your tent and a light lunch, head out for an afternoon orientation drive as the light turns gold, tracking your first impala, topi, and, with luck, a resting lion pride before returning to camp for dinner under the stars.
Mara River & Migration Watch
Position along the Mara River at one of its known crossing points, where thousands of wildebeest and zebra gather before the plunge (peak season July to October; outside this window the drive focuses on resident river wildlife including hippo pods and Nile crocodile).
Field Note
Crossings can happen at any hour — we position at first light and stay flexible through the day rather than chase a fixed schedule.
Full-Day Predator Tracking in the Mara Triangle
A full day dedicated to the Mara's resident big cats, departing at first light with a packed bush breakfast. Your guide works radio networks with fellow trackers to follow fresh lion and leopard sign across the Triangle's riverine forest and open plains, returning to camp only as the heat of the day settles in.

Mara Triangle Crossing
Cross the Mara River into the less-visited Mara Triangle, managed separately from the main reserve and known for lower vehicle density. Expect wide-open plains, healthy topi and buffalo herds, and a real chance of solitude with the wildlife.

Sunrise Hot Air Balloon Safari (Optional) & Bush Breakfast
Rise before dawn for an optional hot-air balloon flight drifting silently over the plains as the sun breaks the horizon, elephant and giraffe visible as moving shadows below. Landing is followed by a full champagne bush breakfast set up in the open grassland.
Departure Game Drive & Transfer
One final unhurried game drive at first light, following any fresh tracks from overnight activity, before a relaxed breakfast and transfer to the airstrip for your onward flight.
